Today’s photo album is one of an abandoned naval armory, sadly falling to pieces.
Opened in 1930, this former naval armory was initially used as a naval training facility, but in recent years has only grown worse into a state of disrepair. There are hopes that an interested developer can one day step in and take control to save this beautiful, historically significant structure. Since its closure in 2004, the armory has sat victim to the likes of scrappers and vandals. See, at one time, this architectural gem once held one of the largest collections of federally-funded depression-era artwork. Since 2011, much of that had been stripped from its walls other than a few murals, and very little original woodwork, which remained when I had photographed this structure back in 2013.
