Abandoned Playgrounds & Lost Childhood Memories
Starting today – Jan 12, 2017 – I will be posting a photo album of an explore or explores every day. Some may have a bit of historical information attached, while others will simply be shared to look at. People like to ruin cool things, so unless it’s gone or heavily watched over by an owner, I will not be sharing any other info. Sometimes, I may just not have any history. Very sorry that I will not be able to always share the location, but I do hope that you all understand that the reason is to protect the location from vandals and scrappers who aim to ruin something beautiful and sometimes nearly untouched.
Today’s photo album is one of abandoned playgrounds & lost childhood memories.
During my travels across the country documenting these abandoned and forgotten places, I every now and then stumble across some strangely out of place things, but not much as eerily somber as that of abandoned childhood memories. Whether it be a scribble on a wall, in a coloring book or diary, old toys, playrooms or the like, it always feels so dark and heartbreaking seeing such innocence torn to shreds, as if in the blink of an eye, an entire life was ripped away from someone so young, so unknowing, they had yet to even be able to realize what was happening in their world; in our world. Their memories have now become lost, buried beneath decay.
I shutter when I see scenes like this. What a traumatic experience, to not know why, or what is going on – why they were so quickly torn from their toys, their bed and everything they knew to be good in their innocent life.
We abandoned the skies when we grew up and refused to fly. We refused to reach such incredible heights. It’s a shame, when we don’t see life the same as it was through a child’s eyes. When we can’t remember that beauty, imagination quickly dies. Too many of us have grown up, but are no longer alive.
You always manage to capture the past mixed with present from such unique perspectives! Love your work!
Thank you so very much! I truly appreciate your kind words 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoy what I photograph and share.
Moving, disturbing and memorable.
