A Very Old East Cleveland Clinic

The images you see below are those from a Victorian era mansion, eventually turned into a medical clinic so that the doctor could care for patients from his very own home. Many years ago, it was far more common to see doctors practicing out of their very own home. In the 1950s, this became much less favorable to many as numerous doctors began setting up separate offices and hospitals away from their homes to care for patients. Municipalities would come to enact different zoning laws, which restricted many types of businesses from operating as such out of their homes. Though it fell greatly out of favor in the 1950s, many doctors continued to practice like this up through the 1970s – there are even a few doctors who up through the 2000s have started clinics from their homes, but you could imagine how much of a headache that must have been.

  1. Your wonderful pictures show what a magnificent place this was, and still is. And as Paula said, the stairs!
